Psychology experts say that music choice can actually reveal information about your personality. Research suggests that someone could make an accurate prediction of somebody else's personality based off of listening to about 10 of their preferred music tracks. For example, one's level of extroversion, creativity and open-mindedness can all be revealed after listening to a couple of their favorite songs.
"In spite of the stereotype that rap lovers are more aggressive or violent, researchers have actually found no such link. Rap fans do tend to have high self-esteem and are usually outgoing."
"While pop music lovers are hard-working and have high self-esteem, researchers suggests that they tend to be less creative and more uneasy."
I liked that this article explained a variety of different musical genres in relation to an individual's personality and their characteristics. I mostly agree with what the research in this article has found, based off of my personal relationships with others who listen to different genres of music, I know that it's mostly true and their personality sounds like what is being described in the article.

Music is really a way to define who you are, not only does it help you in times of need but it tends to complete the thoughts and feelings the emotions that have been bottled up. If you think about it, humans play music all the time when they are trying to figure out what they're feeling and who they are. That's probably why so many teenagers always have earphones on in school. Is our personality type defining when it comes to purchasing music? If this is the case then why haven't large companies incorporated this knowledge into producing music for one specific personality type knowing this could increase the revenue? I think this would be a good idea to research into as to why companies still chose to go on a broad general level than focus in on one specified genre or audience group.
ReplyDeleteThis is a great topic for the post, but I think more details need to be added on how it correlates with the music industry. I would recommend explaining more about how these music companies strategically separate music into genres and moods in order for audiences to have easier access to the music that fits their personality. One example is Spotify, where they allow audiences to create playlists with a variety types of music and sharing it for others to hear. This not only gives them the opportunity to hear others music interest, but also a chance to discover new up and coming artists. I feel as though this subject was explained too broadly and needs to be focused on one specific topic for a more clear and interesting argument.
ReplyDeleteI really like what you talked about in this post. Music is really important to some people, and in many cases, you can really learn a lot about people from knowing the music that they regularly listen to. But, I think you should've incorporated more about how this relates to the music industry, like Agustina said. Music companies know this information and they use it to be successful. So, that's just another thing to think about. But overall, this was a really great topic to discuss.
